3 Crystals for Beginners (that's not Rose Quartz, Amethyst or Clear Quartz)

Starting out on your crystal journey can be tough and while we usually always recommend the big three, (Rose Quartz, Amethyst and Clear Quartz) sometimes you might want to try something a bit different. These three crystal recommendations all have lovely gentle energies that are suitable for beginners, they also have properties based around common problems we might all share such as social burn out, dealing with negativity and feeling stressed out.

As well as explaining a bit about these three crystals in this post, we will also be recommending different ways you might want to use them! Read on to find out more...

moss agate

Moss agate is a deeply grounding crystal that helps you relax and connect to nature. Despite it's name, Moss Agate is actually a Chalcedony with dendritic inclusions of Manganese, Chrome and sometimes Iron. It gets its name due to the fact its beautiful green inclusions resemble moss growing within the crystal.

Associated with the heart and root chakra, it resonates with your emotional centre, invoking that childlike feeling of joy and wonder-particularly towards nature- that many of us feel we have lost as we have gotten older. Moss Agate promotes expression and helps rebuild that sacred link we have with Mother Earth and nature, helping you relax and feel more at ease.

Because of its deeply grounding nature, Moss Agate is an excellent stone to use when meditating, particularly if you get the chance to meditate outside in nature. Simply find a comfortable position where you are upright but relaxed, hold the Moss Agate in your hand and feel the energy radiating off it, imagine this energy travelling up through your arms until it reaches you heart and then travels down to your root. If you notice any thoughts come into your head, acknowledge them and then let them melt away, focusing instead on your breathing.

CARNELIAN

Carnelian is an energising and uplifting stone with warming vibrations. It's an orange and reddish variety of Chalcedony that gets its name from the latin word Corneolus which references the Cornelian cherry-most likely due to the stones resemblance to the fruit. Carnelian has been one of the most widely used stones in history with it being referenced in relation to Napoleon, the prophet Muhammed, Ancient Egypt and the Japanese Iron Age. This crystal is likely so popular due to it's perceived strength and power.

Associated with the solar plexus, sacral and root chakras; Carnelian activates this power house, bringing forward transformative and empowering energies. We often say this crystal works like a little charger for our social batteries, helping us feel a little more uplifted when we are feeling burnt out or overwhelmed. Because of it's transformative energies, Carnelian can be a great stone for creativity, helping us realise our inner visions and plans.

Wear it in jewellery form or even keep in in your bra or pocket to enjoy its benefits all day. Anytime you are feeling a little overwhelmed, hold it in your hand or feel it against your skin and imagine its warm energy revitalising you.

Tourmaline

Tourmaline is a powerfully protective crystal, often thought of as a little energy hoover that helps take in and dispel negativity. Used since antiquity, it was first named in 1400 A.D by a small village in Saxony in Germany. A statue of Alexander the Great was found in Tourmaline that has been roughly dated to the second or third century B.C.

Tourmaline is a popular crystal to use in various spiritual practices due to its protective and cleansing qualities. Associated with the root chakra this is also a grounding crystal, helping us with feelings of anxiety, anger and stress. An excellent stone to use if you feel you often worry or are anxious, also said to help with sleep and stabilising the emotions. A protective amulet that helps suck up negativity and protect your own energy.

We usually include Tourmaline in our cleansing and protective kits. Keeping Tourmaline in the home, particularly near your entryway is said to clear any lingering negativity in the environment and stop it in it's tracks before coming into the home. You may also want to use it as a personal protective talisman, keeping it near you in jewellery or tumble form to help protect you all day.
